Muskoka Cottage Driveway Sealing — What's Different About Cottage Country
Why cottage driveways need a slightly different approach: long approaches, tree cover, gravel transitions, and seasonal access.
Cottage driveways are not city driveways
Long approaches, tree cover, gravel transitions, and seasonal use create challenges you don't see in town. Here's what we adjust.
1. Tree-shaded sections cure slower
Sealer in shaded areas needs more drying time. We schedule cottage jobs on warmer, sunnier days when possible.
2. Pine sap and leaf debris
Cottage driveways collect organic matter that stains sealer if not cleared. Power-blow prep is mandatory.
3. Gravel-to-asphalt transitions
The transition from a gravel road or driveway can pull aggregate onto the asphalt. We often add a clean-edged buffer.
4. Wider, longer driveways
Average Muskoka driveway is 600–1,200 sq ft vs 400–700 in town. We bring extra material and crew accordingly.
5. Seasonal access
Many cottages are accessed only May–October. We coordinate scheduling around your trips up.
6. Lake-water and runoff exposure
Driveways near Lake Muskoka, Lake Joseph, or Lake Rosseau need a sealer that holds up to higher humidity and water exposure. Oil-based is the right call.
